We searched the various carpet dealers, as well as the villages and tribes that make the carpets. After comparing quality and prices we decided to partner with a family that has one of the best reputations in the Afghan carpet business, the Ahmadi Family.
The Ahmadi family has been involved in the carpet business for over 90 years, and we were proud to join them to form our company.
A very special program:
While serving with the Afghan Army we noticed several things that needed to be done to help not only the Afghan Army but the Afghan people. One of the more serious issues we noticed was the lack of employment available to women. While this is a widely known fact, the problem took on a special meaning to us. This issue was brought to light when one of our Afghan soldiers was killed while we were on patrol. As with most Afghan families the husband is the only provider for the family and the women are often uneducated and have no skills for employment. So when an Afghan soldier is killed in action the family is often left with very little.
We have started a program where Ahmadi Carpets will train the widows of Afghan soldiers in the art of carpet weaving. As the demand for carpets grows, we will be able to hire more widows and help keep their family together. Ahmadi carpets had already employed six carpet weavers to produce their own custom carpets for their customers. We decided to expand this service after seeing a demand for quality custom rugs from our service members serving in the Global War on Terror.
Ahmadi Carpets is now one of the highest paying carpet companies to work for in Afghanistan. We now employ over 35 skilled carpet professionals. A portion of our profits are donated to a veteran’s charity every year, this years recipient is The Wounded Warriors.
